What we collect, and what we do not

  • No forms, accounts or sign-ups. You can read everything on this site without giving us any personal data.
  • No advertising or tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics or advertising scripts.
  • Search runs entirely in your browser. We do not receive or store what you search for.
  • Fonts and images are served from our own site, so loading a page does not send your data to font or image services.
  • Email. If you write to us with a tip, a correction or a question, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them only to read, verify and answer your message and to follow up on your tip or correction.

Hosting and technical data

The site is hosted by Netlify, Inc. in the United States. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Netlify processes technical data such as IP addresses, browser type and the pages requested, under its own privacy policy. We do not use that data to identify or profile readers.

Embedded video

Some video stories embed YouTube players in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). If you press play, YouTube, a Google service, may collect data under its own privacy policy.

Sharing and sale

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We may disclose data only when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our readers, staff or sources.

How long we keep it

We keep emails only as long as needed to handle the matter they relate to, or longer when the law requires it or a story or correction depends on them.

Children

The site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Your rights

Depending on the state where you live, you may have the right to ask whether we hold personal data about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it or to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising (which we do not do). To make a request, write to privacy@atlasmedianetwork.org. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request. You will not be treated differently for exercising your rights.

Security

The site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and email in particular is not encrypted end to end. Do not send sensitive information by ordinary email.
